"How Much Space Can Something Hold?"
"Let's Fill Boxes, Cubes and Containers to Learn Volume!"
Imagine you have an empty toy box. How many toys can fit inside?
Volume means: "The amount of 3D space inside an object."
Holds fun presents inside.
Holds tasty juice to drink.
Takes up cold frozen space.
Holds water for washing.
Holds water for fish to swim.
Holds clothes for vacation.
Takes up space in a wall.
Stores water on top of houses.
Volume means counting ALL the unit cubes that completely fill up a 3D shape!
Cubes lined up left to right.
Cubes stacked straight up and down.
Sheets of cubes stacked on top of each other.
Empty Box = 0 Volume | Full Box = Maximum Volume!
We measure volume using small blocks called Cubic Units (like a small 1 cm block).
Volume = 1 cubic unit
Volume = 4 cubic units
Volume = 8 cubic units
Volume = Length × Breadth × Height
V = L × B × H
Volume = Side × Side × Side
V = S³
⚠️ Note: Volume is ALWAYS written in cubic units (like cm³, m³, or cubic units)!
Length (L) = 5 cm, Breadth (B) = 3 cm, Height (H) = 2 cm
Solution:
Volume = L × B × H
Volume = 5 × 3 × 2
Volume = 30 cm³
Side (S) = 4 cm
Solution:
Volume = Side × Side × Side
Volume = 4 × 4 × 4
Volume = 64 cm³

How many blocks make up this tower?
| Feature | Perimeter 📏 | Area 🎨 | Volume 📦 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Meaning | Distance around outline | Flat surface inside | 3D Space inside object |
| Units | cm, m | Square units (cm²) | Cubic units (cm³) |
| Real Example | Fencing a garden | Painting a wall | Filling a water tank |
Q1: A fish tank has a length of 10 cm, breadth of 4 cm, and height of 5 cm. What is its volume?
Q2: An ice cube has a side length of 3 cm. How much space does it occupy?
Drag the matching volume to the correct shape details!
Cube with Side = 5 cm
Cuboid L=4, B=3, H=2
1. What is the unit used to measure Volume?
Volume is the total 3D space inside an object. Use L × B × H for Cuboids and Side³ for Cubes!
